Protecting Biodiversity Through Voluntary Commitment

We received the Biodiversity Award, presented for the first time this year at the Sustainable Business Awards.

The nature conservation work we have been carrying out in Şile did not emerge from obligation. There was no regulatory pressure, no expectation of rapid outcomes. It began with an approach grounded in science, centered on the local ecosystem, and deliberately unhurried. Over time, it deepened, generated data, and became part of the record.

Developed in collaboration with the KuzeyDoğa Association, this work spans approximately 250 square kilometers. Throughout the process, 118 bird species, nearly 400 plant species, as well as significant mammal and bat habitats were identified and documented. Nine of these plant species are endemic, offering concrete insight into the region’s ecological sensitivity.

These data matter to us. But the core issue is not numbers. It is about resisting the habit of viewing nature solely as something to be protected or exploited, and instead recognizing it as a system we live within. This work addresses not only species, but relationships. The restoration of coastal ecosystems, strengthening nature awareness among local communities, and ensuring that scientific findings contribute to broader conservation policies all follow the same trajectory: slow, attentive, and enduring.

At the ceremony, held for the twelfth time under the auspices of the Sustainability Academy, projects addressing environmental and social impact through long-term, measurable frameworks were evaluated. That “Biodiversity” was introduced as a category for the first time this year, and that the award was granted to us, reflects a shift. Our relationship with nature gains meaning not through intention alone, but through knowledge produced on the ground.

The introduction of biodiversity as an award category is no coincidence. Nature is no longer a peripheral concern. It sits at the center of production, design, and responsibility. To be listed among finalists such as Borusan EnBW Energy, Turkcell, Tüpraş, and Kalyon Energy, and to receive the award, is less about competition than it is about recognizing the seriousness of different answers given to the same question.

In summary, as MG International Fragrance Company, we see this award not as a conclusion, but as the visible articulation of a path we have been following for some time.
A marker that reminds us how we work, and why we choose not to rush.
