The emphasis on sustainability and environmental concerns is growing in the luxury sector.

Lately, the two main pillars of the future strategies of luxury companies are sustainability and, of course, digitalization. Luxury retail companies are exploring the use of biomaterials not only for textiles but also for cosmetics and beauty products.

They support the steps taken towards sustainability with investments in innovative technologies. L’Oréal has signed a license agreement with Dutch biotech firm Micreos, which specializes in the use of bacteria, to combine their expertise in biotechnology and skin microbiome to target unwanted bacteria on the skin.

Firmenich, announced its 2030 Conscious Perfumery Goals. It is aimed that 99% of the company’s fragrance portfolio will be composed of completely or partially biodegradable ingredients and the total carbon emissions of this section will be reduced by 25%. According to the Paris Climate Agreement, carbon emissions must be net zero by 2050 to stabilize global warming at 1.5°C.
