A Journey of Scent Under Sakura Trees

Corporate
Sakuranews

As MG International Fragrance Company, we were at Sabancı University’s inaugural Sakura Festival, and together, we made a “Promise to the Future.”

Perhaps you’re reading this for the first time: Sabancı University has over a thousand sakura trees. And as you might already know, when sakura trees bloom, they transform any place into a magical spot where we witness the revival of nature. This enchanting scene unfolded at Sabancı University’s expansive campus, hosting the university's first Sakura Festival. This special event was organized in honor of the 100th anniversary of Japan-Turkey diplomatic relations, and we actively participated as MG International Fragrance Company.

Hosted by Güler Sabancı, the Founding Chair of the Board of Trustees of Sabancı University, participants created their own fragrance blends in the “Discover Your Scent” workshop with our MG International perfumer team. Using scent kits comprising two base notes and 12 different accords, participants embarked on a unique scent journey, celebrating the arrival of spring in a distinct way. Special gifts prepared from the last scent used by Atatürk in his room at Dolmabahçe Palace were highly appreciated by Güler Sabancı and her friends who attended the Discover Your Scent workshop at the festival, held in memory of the 100th anniversary of Japan-Turkey diplomatic relations.

The festival, held under the blooming sakura trees at Sabancı University, hosted many notable figures from the business and academic worlds, including Japan's Ambassador to Turkey Katsumata Takahiko, Japan's Consul General Kasahara Kenichi, Mitsubishi General Manager Yasunori Sakamoto, Toyota CEO Ali Haydar Bozkurt, Bolez Chicken Chairman of the Board Athisiko Chikuhama, Itochu General Manager Takashi Kisimoto, Bridgestone Japan Representative Executive Tomio Fukuzimi, Marubeni General Manager Shigeru Yamaguchi, and hosts such as Sabancı University Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici and Sabancı University Secretary General Ali Çalışkan.

The festival wasn’t limited to the scent workshop. It featured workshops on Japanese arts such as origami, ikebana, and chado, a sushi workshop, a traditional tea ceremony, and kendo demonstrations, offering participants a close look at Japanese culture. In the evening program, the Japanese group WA League and Turkish artist Cem Adrian performed.

It's worth highlighting that the festival was organized within the scope of Sabancı University's "Promise to the Future" Scholarship Program. This program aims to support successful and needy young people by providing scholarships for their education.

Let’s conclude our news with the words of our R&D President Ahmet Baydar about this special day: "We are very proud to be here together, celebrating the continued strong friendship, cooperation, and closeness between Japan and Turkey with this beautiful festival, and being part of this valuable friendship. We hope this friendship will grow even stronger and continue for future generations."
